July 2009

Luton Churches Education Trust
Please pray for the summer camps:
Dent the Universe (27th – 29th July): This camp is for 15 – 18 year olds LCET have been working with over the last few years. It is aimed at encouraging the young people to get to know God at a deeper level and find ways of acting on their faith, making a difference in the world. The Big Reveal (1st – 4th August): This camp is for 11 – 14 year olds to find out more about the Christian faith, learning more about who God is and more about themselves and their relationships with other people. |
Please pray:
- that all the planning and preparations for these events will go smoothly;that all the planning and preparations for these events will go smoothly;
- for all the leaders, that they will be able to develop helpful relationships with the young people, and be a positive influence on their lives. Also that they may the energy, enthusiasm and patience they need;
- that the young people will enjoy the days away in safety and that they will experience more of God and his love.
Uganda
35% of Ugandans live below the poverty line. Uganda has made great progress tackling HIV/Aids, but malaria and TB are rife. There are 5.5 maternal deaths for every 1000 live births. Government forces are still battling against a rebel group that terrorises northern Uganda. The conflict has lasted over 20 years. The average life expectancy is 49 for women and 51 for men. There is widespread corruption affecting government and legal services. Many prisoners are in gaol for years awaiting trial. |
Please pray for:
-
improved health services and medical care, including better resources and supply and distribution of drugs;
-
peace in northern Uganda;
-
that Christians in Uganda, including BMS workers, will be able to combat the levels of corruption in the country by their lifestyles and the examples that they set to other people.
Please pray for our link missionaries, Matthew and Anna, and their son Barnabas:
- that they will continue to enjoy their time in the U.K., catching up on family and friends and renewing their energy.
- for their following home assignment visits:
- the Coventry Link Group on 5th July and Nottingham
- Link Group on 11th-12th July;
- the Lawyers Christian Fellowship London Seminar on 6th July (Matthew will be speaking at this event).
- meeting with Andrew North, BMS Regional Secretary for Africa on 9th July, to plan for their return to Uganda.
- for two new advocates appointed to work in the expanded criminal public defence project: Susan, who will be working alongside Matthew and Eunice in Kampala, and Solomon, who will be working in the West Uganda office;
- for the Baptist church at Kiswas and the development in maturity of the Christians there;
- for a safe return to Uganda on 27th July and for continued health, especially for Anna during her pregnancy.
