Thank God for the freedom we are allowed in our country: for freedom of speech, a free press and the opportunity to elect our own government. Pray for those people of the world who live under oppressive regimes and face intimidation or arrest for opposing the government, expressing their own opinions or worshipping as they wish.
|
Please pray especially for the following nations:
-
The people of Iran, especially those who have been detained or bereaved in the post-election violence, and for those who campaign for justice and civil rights in the country;
-
The people of Burma who have endured a 19-year military dictatorship and for their elected leader, Aung San Suu Kyi who has been under house arrest for all those years. Burma spends only £30 per person a year on health care, so pray too for victims of malaria, TB and HIV/Aids, and for those still suffering the effects of last year’s cyclone which killed 140,000.
Biscot
Please pray for:
-
The people who live in the streets surrounding the church, for opportunities to get to know them and that we might become known as a positive presence in the neighbourhood.
-
Our partner churches in the Biscot Mill group, at St. Andrew’s and St. Margaret’s. Pray especially for the fellowship at St Margaret’s as they welcome their new minister, Julie Bradshaw, and for her induction service on September 6th. Also pray that the members and ministers of the three churches will be able to work together more effectively to serve the local community.
-
Our local neighbourhood police officers: Paul Fright, Kevyn Thornley, Daniel McHugh and Daniel Clantar. Pray for their protection and that they will be able to build good relationships with people in the area. Pray that the Biscot area will be a safe and peaceful place to live and that levels of crime will decrease.
-
The local councillors who represent the Biscot ward: Qurban Hussain, Mohammed Ayub and Tahir Khan. Pray that they may be able to fulfil their responsibilities well, make wise decisions and help those who go to them for advice.
-
The local schools: Denbigh High School and William Austin Infant and Junior Schools. Pray that they may be able to provide a good education and caring atmosphere for all their pupils. Pray for their head teachers as they plan for the new year: Yasmin Bevan at the High School, Lynne Alexander at the Infants and especially Dominic Hughes as he takes up his post as the new head at the Juniors.
-
The Oasis Centre and the work it does among Asian families, especially for Gill Boyd as she leads the work, and for more volunteers to help work with Asian mums and children.
